Talented teen earns state call-up after breakout summer

Sydney Thunder young gun Hannah Darlington is set to make her debut for New South Wales in today’s Women’s Nation Cricket League match at North Sydney Oval.

Darlington, who does not hold a state contract, has earned selection for the Breakers after a breakout summer.

The then 17-year-old made her rebel Women’s Big Bash League debut under lights in the season opener against the Sydney Sixers on the same day she sat her Year 12 English exam and went on to play every match for Thunder.

Darlington finished as Thunder’s leading wicket-taker with 16 from 14 matches and made useful contributions with the bat down the order. Her consistent performances saw her named the Rebel Young Gun of WBBL|05.

The talented teen also featured for the Otago Sparks in New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition, the Super Smash.

Darlington will line up for the Breakers alongside six of her Thunder teammates – Rene Farrell, Lisa Griffith, Phoebe Litchfield, Naomi Stalenberg, Rachel Trenaman and Tahlia Wilson.
