The Central Gauteng Lions (‘CGL’) would like to send their condolences on the passing of Mr Sam Mochaki, who passed away Tuesday, 24 November 2020.

A teacher at Dr Knak Higher Primary School in Alexandra Township, Mr Mochaki was one of the influential teachers who assisted Dr Ali Bacher in implementing his cricketing vision in the Alexandra Township in 1987.

He was a manager of all Alexandra Teams and produced a host of players that went as far as representing Junior South African teams and/or into administration, namely: Walter Masemola, Billy Mabena, Brian Mathebula, Mpho Sekhoto, Jack Madiseng, Felix Vilakazi and many more.

“The CGL family shared the loss of a caring and involved legend with education close to his heart, and an unrivalled passion for all sports, most notably cricket. Mr Mochaki was an Honorary Life Vice President of the Central Gauteng Lions (formerly Gauteng Cricket Board) and will be sorely missed. We will miss his guidance and leadership but will continue working hard to ensure we keep his legacy and spirit alive,” commented CGL CEO Jono Leaf-Wright.

Mr Sam Mochaki will be missed by many cricket lovers in our Province and we are so grateful to him for his many years of service, support, hard work and care. He impacted many lives on his journey and loved cricket and especially brand CGL with all his heart.

Rest In Peace Mr Mochaki and may your light and love always shine down brightly on us all.
