Must Read

Understanding the impact pace bowling has on bowlers bodies is a growing area, and as more research is done the more we understand how to develop pace bowlers in a safe way. Because of the impact pace bowling has, New Zealand Cricket has developed some pace bowling load guidelines for youth bowlers (U13-U19) based on this research. The key areas these guidelines cover are:

  • Pre season – understanding how to progressively build pace bowlers work load up to be ready for the season
  • In season – understanding how to monitor load so bowlers are fresh for matches as well as developing them for the long term
  • Recovery – understanding the importance of rest in the development of pace bowlers

These guidelines are important for anyone working with youth pace bowlers; coaches, parents, school and club administrators. If you want more information, please contact your Major Associations Coach Development Lead.
