The Role

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced and highly driven Head of Marketing & Fan Engagement to develop and deliver the Melbourne Renegade’s (MR) strategic brand identity. This position is responsible for developing the marketing, and communications strategic direction for the Club leading into BBL14 and WBBL10, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities include:

  •  Developing and implementing a marketing strategy for MR to drive revenue growth through ticket sales, sponsor acquisition, membership growth and State and Local Government support.
  • Working with Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and other relevant stakeholders to design and implement a strategy that clearly defines the Club’s vision and key objectives that is fully aligned, both in terms of content and format, with the Cricket Victoria and Australian Cricket strategies.
  • Clearly articulating the MR brand positioning to create a distinctive market position and create a competitive advantage in terms of player, sponsor and fan acquisition.
  • Remaining accountable for attendance, membership and website/social media targets.
  • Working with the Head of Consumer Business to develop and manage the strategy for membership and tickets sales.
  • Working alongside the Event Manager to implement a detailed match activation strategy that has clear audience targets and innovative ideas to attract increased attendance to BBL and WBBL home games.
  • Optimising, with the Media & Communications Manager, website and social media to achieve marketing and fan engagement goals.
  • Optimising, with the Commercial Partnerships Manager, unique club experiences, money can’t buy opportunities and post-season reports that reflect sponsor contributions to the overall brand.
  • Working with the Events Manager to design, develop and design the off-season engagement initiatives inclusive of School Holiday Programs, Academy Programs, Regional Roadshow and Super Clinics.
  • Ensuring event presentation and at-match activations deliver outstanding experiences for sponsors and fans, reinforcing the brand attributes and market objectives.
  • Collaborating with Media & Communications Manager on announcements and brand representative opportunities to ensure engaging and innovative content is implemented to stimulate favourable coverage of players, fans and the Club.
  • Maintaining an expert network of external relationships (creative agencies, media agencies, Cricket Australia, Marvel Stadium, etc).
  • Maintaining knowledge of market trends and developments in key sponsor industries, whilst scanning marketing and digital fields for new innovations.

About You

You’ll demonstrate a thorough understanding of the fan experience and the drivers of excellent customer service. You’ll have strong leadership and mentorship of others and the ability to drive change across a team. You’ll demonstrate strategic thinking and problem solving capability, and be results orientated with sound understanding of budgets, profit and loss statements and ROI within a marketing context. In addition, you’ll have strong presentation, communication and negotiation skills.

To be considered, you will meet the below criteria:

  •  Tertiary qualification in a Business or Marketing degree
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications plans driven by consumer insights and business priorities (sporting organisation experience desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience working within digital marketing and proven capability to take an organisation into new channels to engage with the target audience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian and/or International sporting industry
  • Current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (or arranged upon appointment)
  • Current Victoria Driver’s License
