As part of a growing collaboration between WA Cricket and Persataun Indonesia Cricket, two of WA Cricket’s key figures of High Performance paid a visit to the island nation.
Last month, WA Women’s and Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach Becky Grundy and General Manager – High Performance and Elite Teams Kade Harvey spent some time with the Persataun Cricket Female program in Bali, to further develop relationships between the two organisations, staff and players.
Grundy and Harvey were able to visit the High Performance headquarters based in Bali, to get a closer look into the facilities, a better understanding of their senior programs and run a specialised training sessions for players involved in their female program.
The visit was the first action of the inaugural memorandum of understanding with Persatuan Cricket Indonesia, under which WA Cricket will support the development of young players, coaches, and facilities in the region, cementing its reputation as a leader in the sport.
An initial 18-month period will focus on female development, with a plan to develop similar initiatives for young male players and their coaches in the future.
Athlete development, improved training methods and more highly skilled coaches have been identified as key areas of improvement for their high-performance program, with Persataun aiming to become a top ten team nation in the International T20 rankings within three years.
Having developed into one of most successful High Performance programs in Australian sport in recent years, WA Cricket will hope to pass on their extensive knowledge to Persataun by working closely together to develop tailored strength and conditioning programs for their athletes.
“WA Cricket is excited to be working closely with Persatuan Cricket Indonesia, to help develop their high-performance program and help them achieve their goal of becoming a top 10 nation in the International Female T20 cricket rankings,” Harvey said.
“The key pillars of the MOU include Athlete, Coach and Facility Development with WAC providing expertise in these areas to support the development of a passionate ICC Associate Nation.”
The longer-term vision would also see selected Indonesian players invited to the WACA Ground to spend time with staff, coaches, and curators, with plans underway for practice matches between Western Australian and Indonesian female athletes.
“The first visit to their headquarters in Bali was very beneficial and it was clear from when we arrived that their programs are filled with naturally talented cricketers and a dedicated staff group,” Harvey said.
