Perth Scorchers have locked away another important piece of their long-term future, with star legspinner Alana King putting pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.

The 28-year-old joined the Scorchers ahead of WBBL|07 and made an immediate impact, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker (16 at 18.75) as the Scorchers secured their maiden WBBL championship.

She has proven to be a reliable wicket-taking option in her 43 Scorchers appearances, claiming 52 scalps at 17.50 while conceding just 6.13 runs per over.

The Victorian has also shown her power-hitting ability with the bat in recent seasons, including top-scoring with 33 not out from 14 deliveries in a Player of the Match performance against Sydney Sixers at the WACA Ground last October.

King’s consistency at WBBL level has translated into the international arena, with the talented legspinner becoming a regular for Australia in all three formats since making her international debut in January 2022, celebrating Ashes, World Cup and Commonwealth Games titles.

Her role as part of Australia’s all-conquering squad has been pivotal, tallying 65 wickets at 22.63 across 55 appearances in national colours.

In celebration of Alana King’s re-signing, new members who sign up for membership on 17 to 24 July will receive a free Alana King bobblehead.  Simply show your purchase confirmation at the WA Cricket reception office between July 24th and August 7th to claim.

The best way to catch WBBL|10 action is with a Membership. Packages start from $16 and can be secured via wacricketmembership.com.au.

Reflecting on her contract extension, King said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be sticking around in the orange for the next three seasons.

“I have loved my time at the club since I moved over three years ago, and I believe the team environment that has been created here has brought out the best in me, both on and off the field.

“The WBBL|07 title win will always hold a special place in my heart. To win the Scorchers’ first ever WBBL title in front of a packed house at Optus Stadium was something I will never forget.

“I am super excited about the future with this group and hopefully there are plenty more moments to celebrate.”

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach, Becky Grundy, said:

“We are thrilled to have locked in Alana for the next three seasons.

“She has had an incredible impact on our playing group since she joined us three seasons ago, including playing a key role in our WBBL|07 title-winning side.

“It’s been amazing to watch her grow since she moved to Perth. Her motivation to learn, improve when challenged and hunger to get the best out of herself has allowed her to develop in a world-class performer for both the Scorchers and Australia.

“Her leadership around the group also stands out. Not only is she a much-loved teammate, but she has the ability to lift the energy of the group when they need it most, which is a really special trait.”

The Scorchers will begin their Weber WBBL|10 campaign with a prime-time clash against Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Sunday 27 October.
