With Cancer being the leading cause of death in Canada and at the backdrop of rising numbers, the GT20 Canada, North America’s first professional T20 league, has partnered with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, Canada’s largest and leading cancer charity, as its Official Charity Partner.

As a proud ally in the fight against cancer, the GT20 Canada has unveiled a special series of fundraising and awareness initiatives to assist The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s Cricket to Conquer Cancer fundraising initiative.

Named ‘Hit Cancer for Six: $100 Donation Drive,’ the GT20 Canada has committed to donate $100 CAD to the Cricket to Conquer Cancer fundraising initiative for every six hit during the league. To further build awareness around this initiative against cancer, the total amount donated shall be displayed on the giant screen at the match venue after each six is hit and, when possible, also at the end of each innings.

Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah, Founder of GT20 Canada, said, “We are proud to support the prestigious Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in its outstanding and significant work. Our collaboration will leverage the growing popularity of cricket in Canada to foster community support and generate contributions for cancer research.”

As part of its fundraising plans to assist The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the GT20 Canada will also organize a women’s T20 charity match on August 7, ahead of the league playoffs. All the proceedings from this game will be donated to Cricket to Conquer Cancer. “The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation is thrilled to be the GT20 Canada tournament charity partner. As Canada’s largest growing sport, cricket is such an important part of our country’s athletic landscape,” said Steve Merker, Vice President of Corporate and Community Partnerships at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “2 in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Breakthroughs made at The Princess Margaret are shared across Canada and globally. Through your generous support at this tournament, you are fueling the research needed to help cancer patients here in Canada and around the world.”

To enable cricket fans to also participate in this worthy cause, the GT20 Canada will provide ticket purchasers the opportunity to add a $6 CAD donation to each ticket purchased, in support of the Cricket to Conquer Cancer fundraising initiative.
