The BCB has delayed the Bangladesh “A” team’s departure for Pakistan by 48 hours. Dhaka airport was closed on Monday from 6 PM to midnight, leaving Tuesday’s flight uncertain.
Bangladesh has experienced recent anti-government protests, resulting in several fatalities. On Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and traveled to India, with Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman taking over to form an interim government. Among the damaged properties was former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s residence in Narail.
According to the PCB, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has informed them that the departure of their men’s “A” cricket team to Islamabad has been delayed by 48 hours due to unforeseen circumstances.
The BCB and PCB have been in regular communication over the past two days and will continue to collaborate on a revised tour itinerary, with further details to be provided soon. The Bangladesh “A” cricket team was initially scheduled to arrive in Islamabad early Wednesday for two four-day matches and three 50-over matches from August 10-27.
The two-Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan, scheduled to begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi, is also in jeopardy due to ongoing civil unrest in Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s travel plans for the Tests in Rawalpindi (August 21-25) and Karachi (August 30–September 3) are now uncertain under the current circumstances.
PCB has proposed to the BCB that the Bangladesh Test team arrive in Pakistan earlier to train and practice in Rawalpindi ahead of the Test series starting on August 21. The BCB has yet to respond to this suggestion.
