The BBL championship and WBBL runners-up Brisbane Heat teams will again throw their backing behind winning the Road Safety battle this summer.
For the second season in a row, the Heat will partner with rival Big Bash club the Sydney Thunder to contest the Road Safety Cup and promote road safety messaging throughout the summer.
Heat players Michael Neser, Mitch Swepson and Mikayla Wrigley will attend the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Ekka stall in the Channel 7 pavilion at the Exhibition Ground at Bowen Hills from 2pm today to help launch this year’s support of Road Safety.
The Brisbane Heat and Queensland Cricket have promoted road safety messaging since 2016 as part of their long-standing partnership with TMR and the Queensland Government road safety public education program, StreetSmarts.
The partnership includes messaging at Big Bash games, with the StreetSmarts Innings Break Show a feature at all home WBBL and BBL matches, as well as branding and activations on the StreetSmarts Regional Tour that takes place next week, and the StreetSmarts T20 Secondary Schools competition.
The Road Safety Cup will be contested between the two competing clubs in the WBBL clash between the Heat and Thunder in Perth on Thursday 7 November and the BBL battle on Monday 6 January at the Gabba.
QC Chief Executive Officer Terry Svenson welcomed the opportunity for the Brisbane Heat to continue spreading road safety messages to Queenslanders.
“Using the profile of the Brisbane Heat in the BBL and WBBL to help keep our fans safe on our roads remains a very high priority for us,’’ he said.

The StreetSmarts Regional tour will incorporate activities and player appearances as part of Play Cricket Week, with Queensland Cricket’s ‘Postcard Tour’ taking in regional visits in Townsville, Airlie Beach, Mooloolaba and Surfers Paradise.
Play Cricket week extends from Monday 19 August to Sunday 25 August and will feature cricket activities throughout the State to promote #cricketanywhere and the start of junior player sign-on period.
Queensland Cricket will also promote Queensland Road Safety Week later this month from 26-30 August.
