The Lions Cricket company and the Imperial Lions team and management congratulate fast bowling speed star, Kagiso Rabada on being awarded the purple cap at the Indian Premier League (IPL) which concluded on Tuesday evening in the United Arab Emirates.
The Purple cap is awarded to the bowler with the most wickets in the IPL. Rabada becomes the third South African bowler to win the prestigious award after Imran Tahir (26) and Morne Morkel (25) previously.
The 25-year-old with 30-wickets this season becomes the second most successful wicket-taking bowler in a single IPL season with only Dwaine Bravo (32) having taken more wickets in the 2015 edition.
Rabada has been instrumental in his side’s run to the final and was a key player for the team throughout the tournament. The Imperial Lions player and South African Protea had impressive figures of 4-29 that helped his Delhi Capitals side to the IPL final.
“The Imperial Lions family, Lions Board and management are so proud of ‘our’ KG and his brilliant 2020 IPL performance. The way he led the bowling attack for Delhi is testament to his hard work, commitment to excellence and desire to always do well for the team. We are looking forward to Kagiso wearing an Imperial Lions and Proteas’ shirt soon and bowling our teams to successful times ahead.” commented Jono Leaf-Wright, Imperial Lions CEO.
Rabada will return to home shores as he has been named as one of eight Imperial Lions players to represent the Proteas in their inbound tour against England later this month.
“Well done Kagiso Rabada, we are so proud of you!” concludes Leaf-Wright.
