The 2020-21 KFC Big Bash League Challenger final due to be played at Optus Stadium on Thursday 4 February has been rescheduled following today’s announcement that Perth will enter a five-day lockdown starting 6:00pmWST tonight.The Challenger final will now be played at Canberra’s Manuka Oval on Thursday, which will see the Scorchers travelling squad and staff remain on the East Coast.
Western Australia Cricket Association CEO Christina Matthews said;
“We appreciate the help the WA Government, including the Western Australian Police Force, Department of Health, Office of the Chief Health Officer and the Chief Health Officer have provided us, and respect and support the decision that has been made to keep all Western Australians safe.
“To our Members, fans and Partners, thank you for your incredible support over this very unique cricket season, it’s unfortunate we won’t be able to play finals cricket at home, but the health and safety of all West Australians is paramount and this decision gives us the best possible chance to continue our BBL finals campaign.
“Please stay safe and look after yourselves over this lockdown period.”
The Scorchers will take on the winner of the Sydney Thunder v Brisbane Heat Knockout final being played tonight.
