Afghanistan Cricket Board: H.D Ackerman appointed as Afghanistan batting coach

Former South African batsman and commentator Hylton Deon Ackerman has been appointed as the new head coach of the Afghanistan national team. He will commence his duty from Afghanistan’s tour of Ireland in March.

HD Ackerman was a prolific first-class and List-A cricketer in South Africa. He scored 14,625 runs in his first-class career in 220 matches and piled up 6,327 runs in 226 List-A matches. At the national level, he played four Tests for South Africa in 1998.

In addition to his playing career in South Africa, Mr. Ackerman also played county Cricket in England where he was appointed as the skipper of the Leicestershire County Cricket team in 2005 and continued to play county cricket till 2009.  

Ackerman has great coaching experience as well serving as Coach for various teams in South Africa including South Africa-A and South African Emerging team. He has also served as the Head Coach of Namibia.

ACB CEO, Mr. Lutfullah called Mr. Ackerman a great addition to Afghanistan National team’s coaching staff. Stanikzai said, “Mr. Ackerman has a vast experience in Cricket both as a player and as a Coach. I hope that his appointment as the batting coach will help in strengthening our batting unit and solve the problems that our batsmen face on the field.
