Leading batsman voted Player of the Tournament after record-breaking season

Alex Hales has been awarded the Mike Hussey Medal as Sydney Thunder’s player of the tournament after a record-breaking season in the KFC Big Bash League.

Hales finished his second season in green as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 543 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 161.61.

The big-hitting Englishman also pocketed the record for the most sixes in a single season with 30 maximums.

Undoubtedly his best game was at Adelaide Oval when he scored a brilliant century to help Thunder secure an important win over the Sydney Sixers.

“It’s a great honour for me to win the Mike Hussey Medal,” said Hales.

“The two years I’ve had with the Sydney Thunder have been really enjoyable, both on and off the field, so to win this award means a huge amount to me.

“Hopefully I’ll be back again next year.”
