The Melbourne Stars would like to congratulate Adam Zampa and Natalie Sciver after the pair were named Player of the Season in the BBL and WBBL respectively.

Zampa follows in the footsteps of Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright among previous winners of the award.

The leg spinner played 12 matches for the Stars last season, taking 19 wickets at an economy rate of 7.35.

Zampa took 5-17 at the MCG as the Stars completed a comprehensive victory over the Adelaide Strikers in January.

“It’s a massive honour to be named Stars Player of the Season,” Zampa said. “I’d like to thank all the loyal Stars fans – it’s a big part of why we love playing for the Stars.”

English international Sciver, who was part of the Stars squad in the first season of WBBL, returned to the club in 2020 with some outstanding performances with bat and ball.

Sciver follows South African international Lizelle Lee who won the award in WBBL|05 and Alana King in WBBL|04.

Sciver played 14 matches, scoring 252 runs and averaging 36. The all-rounder took 19 wickets with the ball, at an economy rate of 6.71.

“I’m really honoured to be named WBBL Player of the Season so thank you. I’m really surprised given we had such a great year collectively as a squad but also gutted we didn’t get over the line in the final,” Sciver said.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Nick Cummins congratulated both players.

“On behalf of everyone at the Stars I’d like to congratulate on Adam and Nat on their terrific performances last season. Both Adam and Nat joined us coming out of quarantine periods from international cricket and performed really well,” Cummins said.

“Nat was a consistently strong performer throughout WBBL and Adam continues to be a key threat in our bowling attack in BBL. It was great to see both of them get some good results and we look forward to being able to do that again with capacity crowds later this year”
