The Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 27 May, to celebrate undoubtedly the most challenging year given the Covid-19 pandemic.

Themed #Gratitude, the CGL family will reflect on their season survival, ability to adapt and sustain a brand and level of cricket that one can toast to. Central Gauteng Lions Marketing and Communications Manager Wanele Mngomezulu:

“Similar to the community at large, the Covid19 pandemic hit hard and fast, and as a result we were forced to make many unplanned changes. But with it came good too as CGL, Lions Cricket, our partners and NGO’s rallied together our energies, our fans, our families, friends and resources to support those who need us with over R5mil food parcels donated and helped raised the high levels of femicide scourge, all the while growing our cricketing fraternity and giving hope and belief that this will pass and we will take to the field in due course.”

The CGL Awards will take place from 18h00 at the Imperial Wanderers Stadium and will be broadcast live on our social media channels (YouTube and Facebook). All Covid-19 protocols will be observed.

“This last season has brought with it an immeasurable amount of pressure and stress and so the awards evening will serve not only as a hiatus during the Covid storm, but also as a reminder that our Lions family has performed with great pride, professionalism and passion,” comments CGL CEO Jono Leaf-Wright. “It is a small acknowledgement and thank you for a great amount of work and we’re forever grateful for the performances of our people.”
