The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), founded in 1967 by former England fast bowler Fred Rumsey as the Cricketers' Association, represents past and present first-class cricketers in England and Wales. In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. It also helped create a pension scheme in 1995 and launched the magazine All Out Cricket and the ACE UK Educational Programme in 2002.

Leading solicitors to sponsor Futures initiatives.

The PCA has today announced an official partnership with Lodders Solicitors LLP, and the leading law firm will be the headline sponsor of the Association’s Futures initiatives.

Lodders became a commercial partner of the PCA in 2020, and the news confirms the extension of a relationship which will see the firm become an Executive Partner and continue to support the PCA’s work on behalf of current and former professional cricketers.

That includes headline sponsorship of the PCA Futures Awards, as well as support of Futures Week and the Futures Conference which all support professional cricketers as they build towards their second careers.

The annual Futures Awards highlights the work of PCA members who have proactively taken steps for their personal development. The awards, which are due to take place in late 2021, are judged on a number of criteria, including courses undertaken and qualifications earned.

This year, candidates will present to a panel containing both PCA and Lodders staff at the company’s head offices, and every applicant will receive a 30-minute consultation from a trained professional to advise them on an area of particular interest.

Lodders has also committed to supporting Futures Awards winners financially to assist with ongoing personal development, and the company will also offer work experience opportunities to the wider PCA membership.

The two-day Futures Conference sees PCA members meet to discuss their personal development and hear from specialist speakers, and the event is the centrepiece of Futures Week which aims to highlight successful career transition amongst PCA members.

The Futures initiatives form part of the PCA’s Personal Development and Welfare Programme (PDWP), a personalised support service which enables individuals to develop sustainable performance within and outside of cricket.

PCA Commercial Operations Lead Richard Morris is pleased to see Lodders commit to supporting the Futures initiatives: “One of our core objectives at the PCA is to help professional cricketers fulfil their potential both on and off the pitch, and the Futures initiatives are a significant part of that.

“I’m delighted to see Lodders become an Executive Partner of the PCA and commit to headline sponsorship of the Futures Awards in particular. The team has been a pleasure to work with since we first partnered last year and I look forward to continuing that relationship long into the future.”

Lodders Managing Partner Paul Mourton said: “Working alongside the PCA is an excellent fit for Lodders and our values. When Lodders became a commercial partner of the PCA last year, we made it clear we wanted the partnership to enable the firm to support the PCA’s impressive and important work in providing support to current and past players.

“The new PCA Futures initiatives certainly means we can achieve this objective. The firm is working with the PCA team to develop and deliver an extensive programme of practical support to former professional players as they look to build new careers.”
