Queensland Premier Cricket will welcome a brand-new naming rights partner with deep cricket roots in 2021-22.

KFC, a long-term partner of Queensland Cricket, will assume the naming rights of the overall Queensland Premier Cricket competition for the first time.

The KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition will encompass the Sci Fleet Motors First Grade competition and Kookaburra One Day and Kookaburra T20 competitions, as well as the Katherine Raymont Shield First Grade and Jodie Fields Shield Second Grade women’s competitions.

KFC will be prominently featured through Premier Cricket live-streams, with InteractSport again providing coverage of men’s and women’s competitions throughout the season through its FrogBox system.

The KFC Queensland Premier Cricket season was officially launched yesterday at Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club which was redeveloped last year as part of the National Cricket Campus project.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson welcomed the commitment of KFC to Premier Cricket for the first time.

“KFC has been a partner of Queensland Cricket for well over a decade, with a particular emphasis on grassroots and community cricket throughout the State,’’ he said.

“In recent years the KFC Local Matters initiative saw funds and equipment donated to clubs across the State over the past few seasons and we are enthusiastic now about extending that support further into community cricket.

“Premier Cricket performs a vital role in developing players for the Queensland Bulls, Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat teams in the WBBL and BBL, as well as complementing our player development pathways’’ he said.

“The widespread live streaming of Premier Cricket in recent seasons has helped grow the profile and stature of the game and we are excited about a number of developments for the coming 2021-22 season.”

KFC representatives are excited to take the partnership with Queensland Cricket to the next level.

“The long-term relationship between KFC and Queensland Cricket has been built on common foundations of bringing fun and support to local communities. This embeds two key things Queenslanders know and love. KFC, and Cricket,” said Collins Food Marking Co-ordinator Alexander Hill.

The Launch also revealed that the Final of the Kookaburra T20 competition would be played at the Gabba on Sunday 19 December, the first time in 15 years that a Premier Cricket match has been held at the venue.

Svenson said while club games had been regularly staged at the Gabba in the 1990s, the redevelopment of Allan Border Field this season meant that an opportunity to take a Final to a Test venue was eagerly welcomed.

“It’s a great result for our Premier Cricket clubs to have the opportunity to play at the Gabba while Allan Border Field is offline and something we hope can become a regular occurrence in seasons to come,’’ Svenson said.

The KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition gets underway on the weekend of September 4 and 5, with the opening rounds of the Sci-Fleet Motors First Grade and Katherine Raymont Shield competitions.
