The Melbourne Renegades have signed English all-rounder Eve Jones for WBBL|07.

Jones will join up with the Renegades after a prolific domestic season, where she captained the Central Sparks and featured for Birmingham Phoenix in the inaugural edition of The Hundred.

The left-handed, top-order batter has compiled a mountain of runs in 2021 and is excited to test herself with the Renegades in the WBBL.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be playing for the Renegades,” Jones said.

“Playing in the WBBL is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m really excited to have that opportunity.

“I’ve watched the Big Bash on the TV for a number of years now. It looks like a fantastic competition – it’s a big stage, there’s world-class players and there’s so much support behind it.

“I can’t wait to meet all the girls and give it a crack.”

Jones was the leading run-scorer in the Charlotte Edwards Cup (T20 format) with 276 runs at an average of 55.2 and sat third in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy (one-day format) with 299 runs at an average of 42.7.

The 29-year-old was also the fourth-highest run scorer in The Hundred, compiling 233 runs at an average of 29.1.

“We’re excited to have Eve joining the Renegades for WBBL|07,” WBBL Head Coach, Simon Helmot, said.

“She adds to the strength of our batting group, provides a left-arm bowling option and brings leadership experience.

“Eve has had an exceptional domestic summer in the UK, where she has performed consistently and compiled an enormous amount of runs.

“We know she will enter the WBBL full of confidence and hope she can continue that form with the Renegades.”

Jones will arrive in Australia next week to undergo a quarantine period before linking up with the squad.

“We’re looking forward to Eve’s arrival and welcoming her to our club,” General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“It’s an exciting time for us, as preparations start to ramp up towards WBBL|07. We have two more international players announcements to make to finalise our squad, before coming together in Hobart to begin our campaign on October 16.”
