Ten NSW grassroots cricket clubs are in a better position to inspire the next generation to play and love cricket, courtesy of being awarded a Toyo Tires Sixers Community Grant.

The ten lucky clubs from across the Sixers’ territory are the inaugural recipients of the $1000 grants to help develop the next generation of Sydney Sixers stars in the shape of improved diversity and inclusion opportunities, equipment, uniforms, coaching and local promotion of the game.

Mario Pengue, the President at South Hurstville Carss Park Junior Cricket Club, one of the award recipients, said the club would use the grant money to upgrade training equipment for Junior teams and assist in developing Woolworths Cricket Blast participants.

“On behalf of everybody at our club, a big thank you,” Pengue said.

“This will be much needed this year as sponsorship from the local community businesses may be hard to come by due to the impact suffered during COVID-19 lockdown.

“This will go a long way to making sure our little legends are not short of equipment and specialist training to help their cricketing journey be an enjoyable one.”

The BlowFly Cricket is an All-Ability club on Sydney’s North Shore that leads the way in inclusion and diversity. Their President, Mark Rushton, said the grant would be extremely beneficial to his community.

“Wow. How exciting is this to be receiving the $1,000 grant,” Ruston said.

“All associated with BlowFly Cricket are thrilled and extremely grateful to Toyo Tires and the Sixers for the support and interest in our inclusive, All-Ability club.”

Toyo Tires’ Strategy and Marketing Manager, José Angeles, said Toyo Tires was thrilled to extend their support of Australian cricket to the grassroots level.

“Coming out of another tough stint of COVID-19 lockdowns in NSW, we are honoured to be offering community support in the lead up to summer sport, which marks a milestone in the long-anticipated return to normalcy,” Angeles said.

“We’ve all been doing it tough, but kids have been particularly affected with disruptions to schooling and social development, so we hope that a helping hand from Toyo Tires and the Sydney Sixers keeps the sporting stars of tomorrow looking forward and makes it easier for their families to cheer on from the sidelines.”

Alongside the ‘Toyo Tires Sixers Community Grants’ program, Toyo’s support of the Sixers will also extend to a series of fun, 90-minute, cricket-themed activities that connect the club’s WBBL and BBL stars with kids from 5 to 13 years of age, dubbed ‘Toyo Tires Sixers Super Clinics’.

Sixers fans can catch all the WBBL|07 action LIVE on Fox Cricket and Kayo, with awesome behind the scenes content across the club’s social media channels.
