This year’s Sydney Thunder squad is packed full of exciting young players who are primed to make the most of their opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 tournaments.

Baxter Holt is one of those young guns, who is excited about the chance to play in front of the Thunder Nation.

The 22-year-old gloveman comes into Thunder camp in strong form, smashing an unbeaten 41 for New South Wales in the Marsh One Day Cup last month.

“I’m definitely more comfortable with my batting at the minute, probably as comfortable as I have ever been.” said Holt.

“I feel confident with the way I am striking the ball and that little man on the shoulder that usually pipes up isn’t there as loud this year so hopefully I continue the form I am in and hopefully see what comes this season.”

As a young wicketkeeper batsman, Holt is particularly keen to pick the brain of some of the more experienced players in the group, especially English import Sam Billings.

“I just watched him do range hitting and he made it look ridiculously easy,” said Holt.

“To have someone of his calibre around the squad is something none of us take for granted.

“Then you have the likes of Alex Hales here as well, and Uzzy Khawaja when he is in town.

“We are lucky to have players like that who have played at the highest level.”

Being on the field alongside those players is something Holt describes as a ‘pinch me’ moment, having been on the other side of the fence in the crowd for one of the Thunder’s most iconic victories.

“I just trained at Sydney Showground Stadium and thought to myself that about four years ago when Eoin Morgan hit that last ball six I was actually sitting in the stands watching it,” said Holt.

“To now be on the other side of the fence and being around these guys and playing with them, it’s something very special.”

Sydney Thunder is set to open its BBL|11 campaign against the Brisbane Heat on Monday 6 December at Manuka Oval before playing their first game in Sydney on Sunday 12 December against the Melbourne Stars.
