The Ireland Men’s Under-19s World Cup squad will no longer be able to travel to the United States later this month for a planned three-match series against USA Under-19s Men. Both Cricket Ireland and USA Cricket are in discussions to play the fixtures at an alternate venue.
The Irish squad was due to travel to Florida in late December as part of their preparations for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in January, to be held in the Caribbean. Current travel restrictions and logistical issues have now made it impossible for the Irish Under-19s to be able to travel via the USA, and then onward travel to the Caribbean in time for the tournament.
The two boards, in consultation with the ICC, have made the decision to cancel the scheduled series in Florida, however, both boards are actively exploring the opportunity of playing the series at a new venue in the Caribbean in late December / early January. An update is expected to be made within the next 7-10 days.
