The New Zealand national cricket team, known as the Black Caps, made their Test debut in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth nation to play Test cricket. After waiting 26 years for their first Test win against the West Indies in 1956, they also played their first ODI in 1972–73 against Pakistan. New Zealand are the inaugural World Test Championship champions (2021) and have won the ICC Champions Trophy (2000). They have reached the Cricket World Cup final twice and the T20 World Cup final once.

There’s nothing better than a day of Test cricket – the sunshine, chilling on the bank, the drama! Not to mention watching our BLACKCAPS who are the current holders of the ICC World Test Championship.

This season NZC is giving you another reason to head along to the Test with themed days for each of the five days of a Test Match – DAY FOR IT!

We want to see you on every day of the Test, so will you be there for ‘Magic Morning’ on Day One? There’s nothing like the anticipation of the first morning of a Test, the first session to set the trend for five days of hard work. The tension, the build-up, the hype for the toss, confirming the two XIs and not to mention the pitch – will it ‘do a bit’ early!? There’s also the National Anthem to sing proudly before the players enter the battle. Park up with your coffee or go early with some hot chips and be enthralled with the first session of the Magic Morning – it doesn’t get any better.

Dress Up Day promises to be a beauty! We’re talking colour, costumes, chanting and sing-a-longs. Will you opt for a crazy hat, a Hawaiian shirt or go all out with that Power Rangers one-piece you’ve been wanting to give a run? There will be prizes for the best dressed and loudest, it will be an absolute DAY FOR IT! As we know you’ve got to be in to win and after the year we’ve had – why not throw something on for the day and let your hair down – we deserve it New Zealand!

What about Family Day on Day Three? This one is all about the whanau and creating special memories together. Take a day away from the beach and settle in for Moving Day of the Test. Which side will gain the upper-hand? There’ll be fun activities for the kids on Family Day, including the ‘not to be missed’ Bay Oval climbing wall. Then there’s the all important cricket! Will you see a sensational century or a magical bowling milestone unfold? There’s only one way to find out and that’s being parked up on the bank for Family Day.

Picnic Day on Day Four is pretty self-explanatory! Rustle up some of that Christmas ham (that you’re only half way through) and pack a picnic with a bunch of mates or family. We will have a special VIP picnic area that lucky fans will get the chance to relax in style. Why not make the most of our iconic Test venues by spreading out on the grass banks, unfolding the picnic rug and settling in for a pivotal day of Test cricket on Picnic Day.

The Showdown on Day Five is something special. Anyone who was at Bay Oval for ‘that catch’ from Mitchell Santner will remember the drama and tension as the Test moved into its final stanza. Do the bowlers need to step up and take some wickets or is it on the batters to knock-off a total and claim victory? After 12 sessions, the final three are where the tension, drama and excitement come to a head – you don’t want to miss The Showdown!

Make a DAY FOR IT this summer and head along to watch our world champion BLACKCAPS ply their trade against Bangladesh and South Africa. You won’t regret making a DAY FOR IT.
