Lions Cricket mourns one of its long serving ‘sons’ , a key member of the Kagiso Cricket Club and influential member of our society and the Kagiso community.

The Lions Cricket family is deeply saddened to learn of the untimely passing of one of its stalwarts and long serving Board members Batlhalefeng Lesele on Saturday 1 January 2022.

Batlhalefeng, a former Vice President of the CGL Board was affectionately known by many as “Lucky” or Mr Kagiso Mayor. “Lucky” was a dedicated and passionate member of the Lions Cricket Union who served on various Lions Cricket Board subcommittees namely the Disciplinary, Club Council and Transformation committees. He also proudly, efficiently and purposefully served as Chairman of the Lions Stadium subcommittee.

Mr Lesele played his cricket for Kagiso Cricket Club, Central West Rand and Border Academy. His administration involvement spanned across the game of cricket, focusing largely on development – off field and on it. Off-field, he championed a multitude of socio-economic development initiatives serving his immediate Kagiso community.

Lions Cricket President Anne Vilas;

“He was a good man – a dedicated servant of the game that we all love so much. May “Lucky” rest in peace – our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this tragic time.”

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright, concludes;

“We were all very fond of “Lucky”. He served the West Rand community; Lions Cricket and the broader cricketing community with tremendous pride and I recall with great fondness what a true champion he was of the game amongst his West Rand community. Our thoughts and prayers are with those he left behind and the entire cricketing community that will all miss him greatly. Rest well Chief.”
