Two of Oman Cricket’s most capable ground staff recently completed the ICC Curator Training Workshop online and came out richer in knowledge and experience required to create playing conditions conducive to international cricket games.

Anoop C Kandy and Muhammed Ehtesham ud Din attended the 10-week extensive workshop conducted by Andrew Atkinson, ICC Pitch Consultant, and Iqbal Sikander, ICC Development Officer, Asia Region.

The topics covered during the workshop included preparation of pitches for T20, ODI and Test matches, post-match and pre-season preparation, irrigation and rolling techniques, drainage and equipment, and ICC tournament preparation.

“The workshop aimed at developing a sense of belonging and relating to every second of the experience to bring the best out of the participants. We are grateful to the ICC officials Andrew and Iqbal for every thought and experience shared with us,” said Anoop, who heads the ground staff at Oman Cricket Academy.

“Their earnest effort in sharing the knowledge was not just to enhance the skills but to highlight the challenges one can experience during the match. The experiences and thoughts gathered over the years through different seminars and workshops we had attended mostly focused on ground rules and norms and dos and don’ts. However, we always felt the need for learning in the light of practical experiences so that we have the skills and knowledge to move from the domestic mode to the international method of preparation; something we experienced during this ICC workshop,” Anoop added.

“The participants admired the simplicity in collating the learning and practical experience and combining it in such a way that kept every participant involved and thinking.  The workshop really helped them to correct and reorganize themselves to be able to know how to view and react to instances encountered during the game. It just kept everyone on their toes and wondering what would come next,” said Ehtesham.

They thanked Madhu Jesrani, OC Secretary, and Duleep Mendis, Chief Development Officer, for giving them the opportunity to participate in the workshop.
