Classy opener voted Homestar Star of the Season by Thunder fans
Indian superstar Smriti Mandhana has been voted the Homestar Star of the Season for WBBL|07 by Sydney Thunder fans.
After every match of WBBL|07, fans had the opportunity to award three votes to the player they deemed to be the best for that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third best.
Mandhana received 18 per cent of the votes, followed by young gun Hannah Darlington with 15 per cent.
Mandhana finished her first season in green as Thunder’s leading run-scorer with 377 runs at an average of 34.27.
The classy left-hander equalled the highest WBBL score ever, scoring an unbeaten 114 at a remarkable strike rate of 178.12.
“Thank you to all the Thunder Nation fans,” said Mandhana. “I know it wasn’t the season you would have expected but I’m sure we’ll bounce back better next year so keep supporting us.”
Mandhana also made an impact off the field working with Thunder’s young players, including fellow left-hander Phoebe Litchfield.
“She is probably one of my favourite players I’ve played with so far,” said Litchfield. “I’ve always looked up to her so to be able to play alongside her was awesome. We had a few net sessions together and she shared a few tips.”
