We’re looking for a driven Policy & Engagement Advisor to join our Government Relations and Infrastructure team. As part of Cricket Australia’s goal to be the sport of choice for governments across Australia, this 6-month fixed term position aims to ensure that issues important to cricket are front of mind for government while also continuing to develop and expand Cricket Australia’s relationship with the Australian Government and relevant departments and agencies.

Reporting to the Head of Government Relations and Infrastructure you’ll be responsible for developing, coordinating and directing public policy and government relations activity and engagement for Cricket Australia.

About The Role

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the continued development and expansion of Cricket Australia’s relationship with the Australian Government and relevant departments and agencies as part of Cricket’s objective to be the sport of choice for governments across Australia:
  • Assist in the management of communications with government and other stakeholders at the federal level
  • Leverage strong relationships to deliver funding for key projects, facilities, and programs of significance to Cricket Australia and Australian Cricket
  • Working with government authorities and elected representatives regarding operational planning and delivery of cricket content across Australia
  • Identifying and analysing Australian Government sports policy issues and programmatic funding opportunities that will have a national impact on the sport of cricket:
  • Ensure that the views and perspectives of Cricket Australia are appropriately conveyed to and considered by governments
  • Prepare briefing papers and reports for the CA Executive and Board as required
  • Coordinate the delivery of Australian Government project grants as they relate to the development of cricket both nationally and within the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Assist in the coordination of meetings and events attended by government representatives, including media announcements, government functions, cricket events and other stakeholder engagements.

You’ll Have

About you

  • Experience working in government at a Federal or state level, or in government relations ideally with experience in the sports industry
  • Experience in managing government relations policy, strategy and activities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Relationship building skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage concurrent complex tasks
  • Strategic planning
  • Exceptional work ethic including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work commitments and deadlines, whilst maintaining a close attention to detail.
