Cricket Tasmania is thrilled to announce that Salliann Beams has signed a new two-year deal with the organisation, which will see her remain as head coach of the female Tigers program and Hurricanes WBBL team until at least 2024.

After achieving the historic feat of leading the Tasmanian women’s program to their first-ever piece of silverware – their inaugural Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) title – in March, Beams has accepted another two-year contract at the helm of the state’s only professional female sporting program.

Beams first came into the role in 2018 and has since led both programs for the past four seasons.  She is also current head coach at the Trent Rockets female team in The Hundred, a position she has held since their inaugural season in 2021.

“I’m really pleased to have all the paperwork ticked off so we can really get stuck into preparing for next season,” Beams said.

“It’s no secret that we’re aiming for back-to-back titles in the WNCL, as creating sustained success has been one of the big goals ever since I started here, and we’re looking to build that on the WBBL side of the program as well.

“I think we’ve had some solid lists and signed really good players for the WBBL in the past who probably have not quite lived up to their potential on paper, but as we began to see last season, we definitely have the right ingredients there.

“Once again, we’ll have a couple of key new signings for the Hurricanes this year, and with a lot of the same players playing for both the Tigers and the Hurricanes, I think we will be able to build that winning culture in purple, just as we have in red, yellow and green.”

Cricket Tasmania’s General Manager of High Performance, Simon Insley, said re-signing Beams was a no-brainer.

“The Board and everyone else in the program are obviously thrilled with the work Salliann has been doing and the level she and her team have got our program to.

“With the team she has built around her and the culture our group has developed, we truly believe that our program is one of, if not, the best in the country, and, as shown by the calibre of players who have chosen to move here and play under Sall and the team, one of the most desirable to be a part of as well.

“Sall and her team not only are committed to achieving long-term success for the program, but to developing a sustainable pathway that all young Tasmanian girls can aspire to be a part of, which will leave our sport in a great position for years to come.”

The 2022-23 Tigers female contract list will be announced next week.
