Senior Irish international Shauna Kavanagh has withdrawn for personal reasons from the Ireland Women’s squad and will be replaced by Mary Waldron ahead of the Women’s T20 International Tri-Series against Australia and Pakistan to be played at Bready Cricket Club from 16-24 July 2022.
The 14-player squad was named earlier this month and sees the return of several high-profile players from the squad that faced South Africa in June, including captain Laura Delany, all-rounder Orla Prendergast, wicketkeeper-batter Amy Hunter, top-order batter Rebecca Stokell and bowler Ava Canning.
The Ireland Women squad is:
Laura Delany (capt), Ava Canning, Rachel Delaney, Georgina Dempsey, Amy Hunter, Arlene Kelly, Gaby Lewis, Sophie MacMahon, Jane Maguire, Cara Murray, Leah Paul, Orla Prendergast, Rebecca Stokell, Mary Waldron.
Meanwhile, in a lead-up match to the Tri-Series, an Ireland Select XI featuring three of the senior women’s squad defeated a touring MCC Women’s XI side by 74 runs in a T20 match at Merrion Cricket Club last night.
Orla Prendergast starred with the bat, striking a 57-ball century as the home side posted 188-6 from their 20 overs, before restricting the visitors to 114-7.
The MCC side included Irish international Gaby Lewis, as well as former Irish international Cecelia Joyce in their line-up. The pair opened the batting for the MCC, but Kate McEvoy had soon removed both players for 0 and 2 respectively inside the first 3 overs.
A full scorecard from the match can be seen here.
