Jackson Bird was named the Ricky Ponting Medallist on Friday, as the best Male Player in Tasmanian cricket for 2019/20, completing one of three awards won by the Sixers seamer during the week.
Bird, 33, also received the Jack Simmons Medal as Tasmania’s Marsh One-Day Cup Player of the Tournament and David Boon Medal as Sheffield Shield Player of the Season.
The Tasmanian Cricket Awards were progressively announced last week culminating with the major awards on Friday. No awards ceremony was held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bird, who returned to the Sixers last season, was an integral member of the BBL|09 championship success taking 10 wickets from his 10 matches at an average of 24.
During the season, Bird claimed 28 Shield wickets at 22.35 and 11 One-Day scalps at 20.54, including 6-25 from 10 overs against the NSW Blues in November.
The man who originally hails from Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches also became Tasmania’s all-time leading wicket taker in the Sheffield Shield last season.
Bird passed former Test paceman Ben Hilfenhaus on 262 wickets and currently has 277 to his name. Bird debuted for Tasmania in 2011.
