The Adelaide Strikers are an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket team based in Adelaide, South Australia, competing in the Big Bash League (BBL). Established in 2011, they succeeded the Southern Redbacks, who played in the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash. Match-winning batter Travis Head is set to extend his storied 10-year stint as a Striker, recommitting to the club for another two seasons.

The proud South Australian has played 53 BBL matches and smashed 1360 runs, ranked fourth all-time at the club, at an imposing strike rate of 132.68 since making his debut in BBL|02.

A thrilling left-hander, Head has eight Big Bash half-centuries to his name and famously struck Adelaide’s maiden BBL ton with an incredible 101* against the Sydney Sixers in 2015 on New Year’s Eve in an innings widely recognised as one of the greatest performances in the tournament’s history.

A natural leader, Head was appointed the Strikers’ youngest captain in 2017 and memorably steered the club to its inaugural Big Bash title in BBL|07 during his first summer as skipper.

Head has gone on to represent Australia in more than 90 matches across all three formats after making his mark at domestic level. He has four Test tons to his name and cemented his international credentials with Player of the Series honours during last summer’s 4-0 Ashes victory over England as the series’ leading run scorer, despite missing the fourth Test.

Head says he’s excited to continue as a Striker for the next two summers.

“I love representing Adelaide and South Australia at all levels and so I am thrilled to have another couple of years locked away with the Strikers.

“Playing cricket at Adelaide Oval is one of the great joys of this game and I look forward to seeing what we can do this season as we look to go to that next level.

“We have a really strong squad and so I’ll just be trying to play my role within that and doing all I can to contribute with both bat and ball.”

Strikers Head Coach Jason Gillespie says Head’s leadership and experience will be vital for the squad in BBL|12 and beyond.

“Travis has been a strong leader within South Australian cricket for a very long period of time and that is something that has translated to the international stage in recent years. I am thrilled to have Travis signed on for another two BBL seasons.

“An elite cricketer and someone who leads by example, Travis brings so much to our side and I know he will be giving his all to light up Adelaide Oval this summer.”

The Adelaide Strikers begin their KFC BBL|12 campaign against the Sydney Sixers on Wednesday, December 14 at Adelaide Oval. Join the fun this summer by securing your Adelaide Strikers Membership.
