The Black Widow Cricket Shop recently played host to the upcoming Lions Cricket affiliated club T20 competition season launch.
The competition is a season opener for the Union’s affiliated clubs’ with the premier teams competing to be crowned the BWT20 champions. The inevitably hotly contested finals will take place at South Africa’s only Tier One cricket stadium and #wherejozimeets, Imperial Wanderers Stadium.
“Every year this competition steps up a notch – this year with the inclusion of our Universities and Lions Cricket Premier League B division as well as the Women Presidents League. It’s exciting times for the new clubs as they are looking forward to being part of the BWT20 competition. The growth of this competition is indicative of the strength of the Lions Cricket brand at present: We wish every team, every player the very best throughout the tournament,” commented Lions Cricket Services Manager Reuben Mandlazi.
With trophy retention their only goal, GM Old Edwardians Cricket Club will no doubt have runners up and Group 2 contenders Delfos Cricket Club hot on their heels. Similarly Delfos Cricket Club Ladies will strive to take glory once more, keeping in mind that fun on the field is the aim of the game.
Black Widow MD Robbie Fuchs says that they are excited and honoured to be a part of this competition and to see the growth over the last 3 years especially with women’s cricket being included.
In conclusion, Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright said that one of the key objectives of the Lions Pride has always been to nurture and grow pipeline cricket.
“The Black Widow T20 tournament plays a vital role on unearthing tomorrows stars. Our clubs and communities form a significant and imperative role in providing Lions Cricket professional teams with players that are balanced, talented and determined to achieve greatness. Our gratitude to our long-time partner Black Widow for their continued support, passion and absolute belief in the power of our pipeline.”
