The two sides competing in Punjab Derby – Central Punjab and Southern Punjab – in the fifth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 were fined for slow over rate.

Central Punjab were found eight overs and Southern Punjab two overs short of their target after taking into account time allowances and, as such, were charged under Article 2.22 of the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with the minimum over-rate offences.

Central Punjab and Southern Punjab were fined PKR112,000 and PKR16,000, respectively.

Three players – two from Central Punjab and the other of Southern Punjab – were also fined for breaching the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Southern Punjab’s Umaid Asif and Central Punjab’s Mohammad Ali were fined 25 and 30 per cent of match fee for showing dissent at umpire’s decision, while Ali’s teammate’s Muhammad Ilyas’ 30 pc of the match fee was docked for the abuse of cricket equipment.

Violating clause 2.8, Umaid and Ali showed obvious disappointment when their appeals for LBW were turned down and Ilyas, who violated clause 2.3, after being adjudged caught behind, threw his gloves aggressively just beyond the boundary rope.

The teams and players accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Muhammad Javed. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Nasir Hussain and Tariq Rasheed.
