Bio
Michael Klinger is a cricket administrator and former Australian International cricketer. He made his T20I debut at 36 years of age.
Currently, Michael Klinger is the Head of Male Cricket at Cricket New South Wales (NSW), where he is tasked with overseeing the development of NSW players and teams while integrating high performance systems from the top level to premier cricket. He was appointed to this role in February 2021.
Klinger, a player-turned-coach, has vast experience in cricket, having featured in over 350 First Class and List A cricket matches, while playing over 200 T20 matches for numerous teams including Gloucestershire, Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, Western Australia, Victoria, Kochi Tuskers Kerala. He averaged 47.66 in the 3 T20Is he played for Australia.
Klinger held the record for most runs scored in Big Bash League history when he retired from BBL in Feb 2019.
Klinger’s final T20 game was with Gloucestershire where he stayed for 6 years and 7 months and performed the dual roles of player/batting coach for the last two years at the county cricket club.
Klinger completed his cricket coaching license/certification in March 2018, while still a professional cricket player. He then coached Melbourne Renegades for two BBL seasons from Dec 2019 to Feb 2021 before stepping down in order to move to Cricket NSW.
Klinger won a gold medal in Men’s cricket for Cricket Australia at the age of 17, competing at the 1997 Maccabiah games in Israel.
Klinger was an Ambassador/Guest Speaker at Western Australia’s Breast Cancer Research Center for 2 years from Jan 2017 to July 2019.
Klinger completed a Masters of Business and sport Management and a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Human Movement from Deakin University while on full time playing contracts.
