The International Cricket Council (‘ICC’) is the global governing body for the sport, which administers all aspects of international cricket.
We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel within the ICC Legal team, based at our headquarters in Dubai, UAE. The role will report to the ICC’s Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial. This role is responsible for primarily assisting with the legal department’s commercial work though the successful candidate will be required to assist with other areas of the legal department’s activities based on the overall requirements of the organisation.
Principal Accountabilities
Responsibilities of the Legal Counsel include but are not limited to the following:
- Drafting and negotiating contracts in respect of ICC commercial rights, including tender documents, sponsorship agreements, licensing agreements and media rights, broadcast and digital agreements.
- Drafting various documentation for ICC events, such as terms and conditions for ticketing, accreditation and competitions for event related promotions.
- Be responsible for the management, registration and protection of the ICC’s intellectual property rights portfolio (in conjunction with the ICC’s appointed external advisors).
- Leading on the implementation of the Rights Protection Programme for all ICC events.
- Drafting and negotiating non-event related agreements and templates to facilitate the day-to-day operation of the business of the ICC such as consultancy agreements and IT services and support agreements.
Knowledge, Skills, Attitude and Experience
- Qualified in (or knowledge of) English law (or equivalent legal jurisdiction) with minimum 4-6 years post qualification experience working in an in-house legal team or working closely with in-house lawyers.
- Have a strong understanding of international commercial contracts and the context of the commercial exploitation of sporting events, the sports media landscape and the operating environment of major events.
- High level of knowledge in one or more of the following areas: data protection; intellectual property and trade mark portfolio management; and/or information technology.
- Have good legal drafting and negotiation skills in a fast-paced and pressured environment.
- Attention to detail and resolution-based legal thinking will be essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Track record of effective time management and managing client expectations.
- Motivated and enthusiastic attitude.
- Confident and capable of interacting with Senior Management.
- Good team player with a flexible approach.
- Willing to handle a wide range of work and possess the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
Conditions of Employment

- The selected candidate will be required to provide two recent work references.
