What you need to know

The inaugural season of the WPL will see five teams (Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz) take part in a 22-game season, each team playing one another twice.

The first placed team at the conclusion of the regular season will advance directly into the Final, while the second and third placed teams will qualify for the Eliminator with the winner earning the remaining spot in the decider.

The competition kicks off with the Mumbai Indians taking on the Gujarat Giants on Saturday March 4, with the Final to be held on Sunday, March 26.

The WPL auction took place last month with a number of Sixers earning record-breaking pay days.

Sixers Head Coach Charlotte Edwards will lead the Mumbai Indians, while Ellyse Perry and Erin Burns are set to be reunited with Edwards’ predecessor Ben Sawyer at Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The WBBL Player of the Tournament Ashleigh Gardner was the first Australian picked up in the auction joining Gujarat Giants, while Alyssa Healy will captain UP Warriorz alongside Sophie Ecclestone.

Former Sixers legend turned list manager; Lisa Sthalekar has been recruited by the Warriorz as team mentor while WBBL performance analyst Benji Hoppitt joins Edwards at the Indians.
