The USA Cricket men’s National Selection Panel has named a 14-man squad to represent the United States of America in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Qualifier Playoff, scheduled to begin on March 24 in Namibia. The Qualifiers will feature six teams, including Canada, Papua New Guinea, Jersey, the USA, and two TBD; all competing for a chance to qualify for ICC Cricket World cup qualifiers in June.
USA Cricket men’s Interim Head Coach, Kevin Darlington, said, “As USA Cricket prepares to participate in a very critical tournament, I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to serve as USA Cricket men’s Interim Head Coach and to help guide this very talented group of cricketers. The team selected is a very balanced one, and the boys are very eager to showcase their talent as we prepare for the upcoming series in Namibia. Last year we had a very good series in Namibia and I plan to continue building on what worked for us in that series.”
The USA Cricket senior men’s team is in a 10-day training camp in India in preparation for the ICC CWC Qualifier Playoff. The camp, which started on March 5, will allow the team to hone their skills and strategies ahead of the tournament. Team USA will travel to Namibia directly from India, giving enough time to help acclimate to the local conditions.
Coach Kevin added, “I am very grateful to our Board and the Karnataka State Cricket Association for putting together a training camp in India in preparation for our tour to Namibia. We will play five games against high quality opponents here in India, and it can only be beneficial to our team. With the CWC Playoff being such an important one for us, it is essential that we get into Namibia with enough playing time under our belt. The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”
USA Cricket is committed to growing the sport of cricket in the United States and encourages fans to follow the team’s progress and show their support by tuning in to the ICC CWC Qualifier Playoff matches. Stay tuned for more updates on the USA men’s team as they gear up for the tournament.
