Bio
John Knox is the current Chairman of Cricket New South Wales, a position he has held since June 2018. He played an instrumental role in driving cultural change at Cricket Australia following a difficult period in the organization’s history. Knox has been a member of the NSW Board since December 2012 and is also an advisory board member of the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
Knox has had a significant impact on Cricket Australia’s recent history, including his advisory role in negotiating television rights in 2013 and 2018. He was also involved in drafting the private ownership prospectus for the Big Bash League franchises in 2010-11, which ultimately led to Cricket Australia retaining ownership of all teams.
Before his involvement in cricket administration, Knox worked at Credit Suisse for almost 25 years in various roles. He was the associate/vice president of the Financial Sponsors Group in New York, where he actively executed and assisted with origination on leveraged buyouts, IPOs, and M&A transactions. In 2003, he was awarded the “Global Leveraged Finance Banker of the Year” for Credit Suisse.
Knox also served as the Head/Co-Head of Investment Banking for Credit Suisse Australia, leading a team of up to 90 bankers across client coverage and originating many investment banking transactions across all industries. He was also the CEO of Credit Suisse Australia, where he managed a diverse range of complex businesses and teams in a highly competitive external environment. The role included overseeing investment banking, private banking, equities, asset finance, fixed income, debt financing, and shared services.
Knox currently heads Ares SSG Australia and New Zealand, where he is driving Ares’ business expansion opportunities in the two countries.
Knox is one of the most senior leaders in financial services in Australia, having served as the Chairman of the Australian Financial Markets Association from 2016-2019, the industry body for institutional market participants in Australia.
