Three teams have been locked in – India, Rest of the World Yellow, and Rest of the World Blue – to do battle on Saturday, March 25 in the inaugural HomeWorld Women’s Thunder Nation Cup.

With players representing India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, the Philippines, Ukraine, Ireland, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Australia, the Women’s Thunder Nation Cup is an opportunity for players from a host of multicultural backgrounds to form friendships and grow community through cricket.

Perfectly aligned with 2023 Harmony Week, the Thunder Nation Cup is a celebration of diversity, inclusion and belonging – values that are embedded within the Sydney Thunder culture.

Now in its fifth year, the men’s edition of the Thunder Nation Cup has become a staple on the Sydney Thunder calendar, bringing together men from across western Sydney and beyond.

India remains the team to beat in the men’s competition, claiming back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022 with team India hoping to replicate the same success in the women’s competition.

With players of varying skill levels, the first edition of the women’s cup will have a share of underage up-and-comers and some of Sydney’s best grade talent on show.

Full teams are below:

India: Aarya Shipurkar (captain), Lavanya Chopra, Aanya Siingh, Jaaniya Shah, Priya Kakchingtabam, Ira Patel, Lavena Rampal, Ekmehar Sidhu, Mayher Singh, Manat Kaur.

Teams will play 15 overs a side, playing each team once with three points awarded to the winning side.

At the conclusion of the three round-robin matches the team with the highest number of points will be declared the winner of the Women’s Thunder Nation Cup.

The HomeWorld Women’s Thunder Nation Cup will be held this Saturday (March 25) at Blacktown International Sports Park. Play will begin at 10am and entry for all spectators is free.
