The Melbourne Renegades have named a 12-player squad for next week’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander T20 Cup tournament in Albury.

Four men’s teams will compete in the event, with the Renegades to face off against sides representing the Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers from Friday 31 March to Sunday 2 April.

A women’s competition will also take place, with a Victorian side to compete against teams from the Thunder and Sixers.

Experienced coach Barry Neivandt – who coached Victoria Men at the recent National Indigenous Cricket Championships – will guide a team with a mix of players from metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Four members of that Victorian team feature in the Renegades line-up: Alexandra CC’s Jacob Bourke, Old Carey CC’s Joshua Devine, Altona Sports CC’s Ryan Donovan and Essendon CC’s Bailey Toseland.

Toseland is one of four players aged under-18 in the squad, with the rising star representing Victoria Metro at this summer’s Under 17 National Championships and recently earning selection in the National Men’s Indigenous Squad for a series in Vanuatu in May.

The team will wear playing shirts featuring the same design as the club’s BBL and WBBL First Nations Round playing shirts, designed by Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung and Ngurai illum Wurrung artist, Ky-ya Nicholson Ward.
