Cricket Australia congratulates the nine individual and team winners of the 2022-23 State Cricket Awards following a memorable domestic season.
Sam Nogajski has received the Cricket Australia Umpire Award for his exceptional contributions at both international and domestic level.
Nogajski umpired matches in all men’s white ball bilateral series throughout the 2022-23 international home summer, performing consistently well across each series.
His strong performances across domestic formats earned him on-field appointments to all three men’s competition finals (KFC BBL, Marsh One-Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield).
Off the field, Nogajski demonstrates a caring attitude and a genuine concern for others. He leads by example and possesses an outstanding attitude towards fitness, preparation, and development.
Ashleigh Gardner has won a third Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year award following her remarkable performances over the past 12 months.
The Player of the Tournament at the 2023 ICC T20 World Cup, Gardner was an integral part of Australia’s women’s team which secured a record sixth T20 title in South Africa.
A match-winning five wicket haul against New Zealand in Australia’s opening game set the tone for the tournament, while she was instrumental with both bat and ball in the Final against South Africa at Newlands.
The Sydney Sixer was also named the Weber WBBL|08 Player of the Tournament and scored 339 runs at an average of 28.25 to go with 23 wickets from 15 matches.
This is Gardner’s third Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year Award having previously won this award in the 2014-15 and 2019-20 seasons.
Victoria was named the winner of the Women’s Benaud Spirit of Cricket Award and finished on 76 points at the end of the WNCL season, one point ahead of New South Wales and Western Australia.
Queensland took out this year’s Men’s Benaud Spirit of Cricket Award, with a combined 276 points across the Marsh Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup competitions, four points ahead of Tasmania.
In the Spirit of Cricket Awards, teams are awarded points across three categories at the end of each match, with Respect for Opponents, Respect for Umpires and Respect for the Game all measured.
CA Head of Cricket Operations, Peter Roach, said:
“The 2022-23 domestic season has been a great success and we congratulate all award winners on their outstanding performances.
“It is timely to say a big thank you to all players, coaches, support staff, match officials and administration staff who all came together to ensure that we had strong, competitive and vibrant domestic competitions – competitions that have always been and will always be vital to Australia presenting strong national teams.
