Cricket Hong Kong is delighted to announce the Hong Kong, China Women’s squad for the Capricorns Women Quadrangular to be held in Namibia later this month. The Hong Kong team will travel to Namibia shortly after the conclusion of the FairBreak Invitational Tournament that is currently being played at the Kowloon Cricket Club.

Capricorns Women Quadrangular will be is a double round robin tournament that will be competed between Namibia, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, China with the fourth team to be confirmed following the withdrawal of the USA.

The squad will see the Hong Kong team play international women’s cricket in Africa for the first time. The series will be the first international cricket for the squad since they competed against Japan in October 2022.

Hong Kong, China captain, Kary Chan had this to say, “The opportunity to compete against strong opposition in a different part of the world is an exciting prospect. We have a great team that is passionate about playing cricket, learning from experiences with the aim of putting together winning performances in major tournaments.”

Geoff Lawson who has been a central figure with FairBreak Global as coach for their recent tour of Europe will join the squad in an interim role of Head Coach. Lawson had this to say “I feel honoured to be asked to work with this great group of players. I have worked closely with a number of the squad and seen most of the players during their time playing at the FairBreak Invitational events. Whilst the objective is always to win I’ll be looking at the bigger picture, supporting individuals and the team to keep developing and improving as they build towards some big tournaments later in the year.”

Kary Chan’s team will see a change in the leadership with Natasha Miles taking over from Yasmin Daswani as vice-captain. Chair of selectors Tracy Walker had this to say “We would like to thank Yasmin for her contribution as vice-captain over the last few years, she has done a great job supporting Kary and I am sure we will see her in a leadership role again. Natasha is an incredibly experienced cricketer and leader. Vice-captaincy was seen as a natural progression that gives the team and Natasha the best opportunity to benefit from that knowledge of the game.”

Hong Kong’s first match will be on the 23rd April with the final of the quad series set to take place on the 2nd May 2023.
