Cricket Scotland and the ICC are delighted to confirm the fixture schedule for Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, which takes place in Edinburgh across nine days in July.
The highlight of the schedule sees hosts Scotland clash with Ireland, in what could be a mouthwatering tournament finale, on Friday, July 28, at Grange CC.
The Scots begin their campaign on Thursday, July 20, at Goldenacre against Germany – the second part of a doubleheader at that venue, with Italy facing Ireland earlier that day.
Scotland play Jersey the following afternoon at Grange CC, before taking on Italy at the same venue on Monday, July 24. They return to Goldenacre to face Austria on Tuesday, July 25, before concluding their campaign with two matches at Grange CC – against Denmark on Thursday July 27 and the final game against Ireland the next day.
The qualifier represents the first time Scotland have been sole hosts of a Men’s ICC World Cup qualifying tournament and is the final step in the qualification pathway to the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The winners and runners-up in the tournament will both advance to the main event, consisting of 20 teams, being held in the West Indies and USA in June 2024.
Scotland have competed at the two most recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. In 2021 they reached the Super 12’s for the first time, topping Group B in the first round stage after beating Bangladesh, while last October in Australia, the Scots recorded a memorable win over the West Indies.
Cricket Scotland Head of Operations and Commercial, Paul Macari, said:
“We are proud and really excited to be hosting European cricket’s top event in 2023, and we’re looking forward to welcoming six European countries to Scotland in July.
“Goldenacre and Grange are two fantastic venues for T20 cricket, and I know both clubs are eagerly anticipating hosting these matches. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and offer the fans an exciting nine days of action.”
Cricket Scotland Interim Head of Performance, Toby Bailey said:
“Hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Regional Final represents a fantastic opportunity for cricket in Scotland. We are looking forward to hosting one of the biggest European regional events ever and, after staging a successful series against New Zealand last summer, we’re pleased to be bringing more world-class cricket to our fans here at home.
“The squad is already working hard to make sure we go into the Qualifier fully prepared, and we are looking forward to the opportunity to qualify for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.”
Details around ticketing arrangements for the tournament will be released in due course.
