- PCA Men’s and Women’s Teams of the month revealed
- Surrey’s Sean Abbott leads Men’s side by finishing top of May MVP rankings
- South East Stars skipper Bryony Smith captains Women’s team
The PCA’s Most Valuable Player Rankings have decided the teams of the month in domestic men’s and women’s cricket for the month of May.
Using the MVP’s unique algorithm, both elevens are selected by picking out the game’s top performers across every single domestic fixture in that month.
The MVP works by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game. Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average. Enabling players to score or lose MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database, the rankings is a true reflection of performance.
The teams have been selected to create a well-balanced side, so that it’s not just the best 11 cricketers according to MVP points. The means players such as Tom Kohler-Cadmore are unfortunate to miss out due to the fantastic form of Matt Montgomery and Sam Hain during the month.
In the men’s game the month started with LV= Insurance County Championship matches and finished with the start of the Vitality Blast. Sean Abbott’s sublime 34-ball hundred against Kent, the joint fastest ever in the competition, means that he earnt most MVP points during the month having scored a total of 280 runs and taken 11 wickets.
Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears batter Sam Hain has made the side for the second month in a row and Durham’s Ollie Robinson keeps wicket for the second month in succession following a great start to his Vitality Blast campaign.
With only two Rachael Heyhoe Flint (RHFT) matches in April, May’s team provides a better look into who is performing well in women’s domestic cricket with RHFT and Charlotte Edwards Cup games taking place. South East Stars skipper Bryony Smith leads the way with a brilliant 114 MVP points in the month, thanks to scoring 242 runs and taking nine wickets.
The Blaze opener Tammy Beaumont continued her good form into the Charlotte Edwards Cup being selected for a second month in a row, whilst April Player of the Month winner and South East Stars all-rounder Paige Scholfield also takes a place in the side in consecutive months.
Teams have been selected solely for games played in May.
