The Stars will host a match in Albury for the first time ever on December 23.

The Melbourne Stars are set to host the Sydney Thunder at Lavington Sports Ground in Albury on Saturday 23rd December.

It will be the first time ever that the Stars have played a BBL match in Albury, having previously played pre-season fixtures and a WBBL match there in 2017.

The match provides another opportunity for the people of Albury-Wodonga and surrounding areas to experience elite level cricket after the Thunder hosted the Hurricanes on New Year’s Eve last year.

“It’s wonderful to have the Border Bash back and to be playing for BBL points on this occasion is going to be a landmark event for people of Albury-Wodonga,” said Blair Crouch, General Manager of the Melbourne Stars.

“After significant investment, Lavington Sports Ground has proved itself as an elite venue capable of hosting elite cricket and we can’t wait to bring the Melbourne Stars experience to the ground.

“The BBL is all about fun, family entertainment and children will have numerous opportunities to meet their heroes from the Stars in the week leading up to the match.

“We look forward to visiting the region in August as part of our Super Stars Road Trip and immersing ourselves amongst the local community in the lead up to what is going to be a great event.”

AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King said she was delighted to welcome another Big Bash Match to the Lavington Sports Ground after last years’ event on New Years Eve.

“Last years’ highly successful New Years Eve match at the Lavington Sports Ground showed the nation what the facility is capable of, and we’re delighted to host the Melbourne Stars and welcome back Sydney Thunder for another key fixture,” Mayor King said.

“This event gives our cricket fans another chance to see the action live on the ground, as well as bringing spectators from all over the country to experience everything our beautiful region has to offer.”
