Sydney Thunder leg spinner Tanveer Sangha made a stunning international debut last night, taking 4-31, in Australia’s opening T20 match against South Africa in Durban.

The 21-year-old was given an opportunity in the starting Xl as a late replacement for fellow spinner Adam Zampa, who woke up on match day with a head cold, and Sangha did not disappoint as Australia charged to an 111-run victory.

Sangha took the wicket of South African skipper Aiden Markram with the final ball of his first over, before dismissing Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs with successive balls in the middle of his second over. He then took down Marco Jansen with the penultimate ball of his fourth over, making it four consecutive South African wickets for the debutant.

Sangha, arrived in Durban less than 24 hours before his call up, having completed his commitments with the Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, and had not initially been included in the T20 squad for the series.

He is a part of the Australian squad for the five match ODI series against the Proteas that begins on September 7.

Australia will play the next match of the T20 series on Friday night Durban time (6.00pm), which is 2.00am Sydney time.
