The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), founded in 1967 by former England fast bowler Fred Rumsey as the Cricketers' Association, represents past and present first-class cricketers in England and Wales. In the 1970s, the PCA established a standard employment contract and minimum wage for professional cricketers. It also helped create a pension scheme in 1995 and launched the magazine All Out Cricket and the ACE UK Educational Programme in 2002.

PCA partner make commitment to the player’s charity.

Brooks Macdonald will sponsor the London to Paris Bike Ride for the Professional Cricketers Trust in October this year.

Commencing on 10 October, coinciding with World Mental Health Day, the sponsorship highlights Brooks Macdonald’s commitment to supporting mental health through the Professional Cricketers’ Trust.

Completing the epic ride from London to Paris on two wheels will be many former and current cricketers including England all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards, Gloucestershire’s James Bracey and Surrey’s Dan Worrall who are all training for the bucket list 418km challenge that culminates at the Eiffel Tower.

The headline event for the charity in 2023 is aiming to raise £50,000, a substantial figure given the Trust operates with no funding partner at present. If achieved, the successful riders will secure enough donations to provide life-changing and in some cases life-saving mental health support for over 50 individuals.

The sponsorship is a shining example of how becoming a PCA partner can bring mutual benefits and lead to further opportunities with the Professional Cricketers’ Trust.

The PCA’s financial wellbeing partner are an award-winning wealth management firm who offer investment management and financial planning services to all PCA members.

The partnership, set up in February 2022, aims to support both current and former professional cricketers in the important area of personal finance, helping players to navigate the financial challenges that come from a career in professional cricket.

The Professional Cricketers’ Trust was created to support the life-long health and wellbeing of past and present cricketers and their immediate families. The Trust funds life-changing assistance through expert advice, rehabilitation programmes and a dedicated 24-hour Confidential Helpline, all vital services that riders will be using as inspiration throughout three-day cycle.

PCA Commercial Director, Rob Smyth, said: “We are delighted to have Brooks Macdonald on board to sponsor the London to Paris Bike Ride for the Trust.

“Brooks Macdonald made a long term commitment to the PCA in 2022 and it’s fantastic to see that they are now supporting mental health cases through the Professional Cricketers’ Trust.

“I think it’s a brilliant example of how PCA partners can explore expanding their Corporate Social Responsibility through the work of the Trust and we are extremely grateful to the Brooks Macdonald team for their donation to this great cause.”

Stewart Sanderson, Head of Private Clients at Brooks Macdonald, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Professional Cricketers’ Trust for this important event. We hope our support will go some way to helping the Trust continue to offer their vital services to PCA members.

“It’s a daunting task for me personally and my colleagues, James and Gavin, who are neither professional athletes or cyclists. However, bikes have been bought and (some…) training completed as we look forward to what will be a memorable event. I’d also like to thank those joining us and wish everyone riding the best of luck, I’m sure it will be a fantastic experience for this worthy cause.”

Brooks Macdonald provides leading investment management services both in the UK and internationally.
