The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is back and registrations are now open.

Sydney Thunder’s largest and most successful community initiative, the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup has been a key part of the club’s identity for the past decade.

Beginning in BBL|03, the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup returns once again this season, with trials set to begin in October.

In a celebration of culture, cricket and community – teams drawn from Sydney Thunder’s territory honour their cultural ties to their former homelands by playing one of the most popular sports in Australia, cricket.

This year’s competition kicks off on 12 November 2023 with teams representing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pacific Nations, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Rest of the World all taking part.

Male and female cricketers from multicultural or culturally diverse backgrounds are encouraged to trial and take part in celebrating the community that is Thunder Nation.

Sydney Thunder will additionally partner with the Nepalese Cricket Association to deliver a gala day for the Nepalese community. The day involves 3 games of cricket per team in a 7 over competition to source the Nepalese team for the Thunder Nation Cup later in 2023.

This year’s Nepal Gala at Beaman Park will be held on 29 October, 2023.

“We’re always looking for ways to actively engage with the community and we’ve found real success for the past decade running this event.

“Offering opportunities for talented players to unite and showcase their abilities is incredibly powerful. Many of the people that take part come back time and time again, it’s been fantastic to see the meaning of the competition grow.”
