SLC: Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation between Sri Lanka and Australia

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. Originally registered as the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on June 30, 1975, it was renamed Sri Lanka Cricket in 2003.

A bilateral memorandum of understanding was signed between Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe and Honorable Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia Mr. Tim Watts, on 10th October,2023 at Sri Lanka Cricket to develop sports cooperation between Sri Lanka and Australia.

 This MoU will strengthen bilateral relations by identifying the sports field that is needed to showcase the talents of athletes and sports teams between the two countries, and to develop the exchange of information and programs.

Furthermore, this bilateral cooperation will enable mutual benefits in training, coaching, improvement of sports science and medicine, development of sports discipline and well-being and promotion of gender equality in sports.

Furthermore, this will provide Sri Lankan sportsmen an opportunity to participate in training programs and sports competitions in Australia as well as exchange experiences for the future development.

Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka HE. Paul Stephens, its Second Secretary (Political) Ms Lara Sveinsson and a group of senior officials along with the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Kanapathipillai Mahesan , officials of the Ministry and Sports Development Department also participated for the event.

 Sri Lanka Cricket President Mr. Shammi Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mr. Mohan De Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket Treasurer Mr. Sujeeva Godaliyadda, Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Mr. Ashley De Silva, Head of Marketing Mr. Upul Nawaratne Bandara, Business Development Manager Mr. Gihan De Silva, Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Mr. Aravinda De Silva, Sri Lanka National player Mr. Angelo Mathews and players of the women’s National team also participated for the event.
