Cricket Hong Kong, China celebration of 120 years of League Cricket, aided by on-going sponsorship from Craigengower Cricket Club

Cricket Hong Kong, formerly known as the Hong Kong Cricket Association, is the governing body for cricket in Hong Kong. Established in 1968, it is headquartered in So Kon Po, Causeway Bay. An associate member of the ICC since 1969, Cricket Hong Kong also belongs to the Asian Cricket Council.

Craigengower Cricket Club and Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK, China) are pleased to announce their 7th tranche of sponsorship to help further develop cricket in Hong Kong.

The President of Craigengower Cricket Club, Dr James Lau said“We are delighted to continue our on-going sponsorship of Cricket Hong Kong, China which began when we opened the Braidwood Centre for Cricket Development in 2013”.

“This will be the 7th tranche of $150,000 to assist Cricket Hong Kong, China develop cricket especially in the local community over the last decade”, Dr Lau said.

“We are very proud that Cricket Hong Kong, China uses our indoor Braidwood Centre for Cricket Development as a base for our Hong Kong Women’s side, the all Chinese Dragons, numerous Junior and other programmes and works closely with us in delivering cricket and coaching programmes for the community-at-large” he added.

This year, Cricket Hong Kong, China are celebrating 120 years of league cricket in Hong Kong and the formation of the HK Cricket League in 1903. In honour of this special occasion, a function was hosted by Craigengower Cricket Club on 11 October. The event featured club representatives, government officials, sponsors, and members of the national squads near the location at Craigengower where the first meeting that formed the HK Cricket League was convened on 22 October 1903. The Craigengower founder, William Drew Braidwood convened the meeting. The first fixture was played two days later between Craigengower and the Civil Servants Cricket Club (now the Centaurs CC) on 24 October 1903.

To commemorate this 120th milestone, CHK,China scheduled a Saturday League fixture between CCC Hung See and Centaurs CC on 14 October at the home base for their community engagement programmes – Gin Drinkers Bay.

From humble origins of 8 teams in 1903, league cricket in Hong Kong has since grown to encompass over 180 sides across competitions involving Men, Women, and Junior competitions.
