The New Zealand national cricket team, known as the Black Caps, made their Test debut in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth nation to play Test cricket. After waiting 26 years for their first Test win against the West Indies in 1956, they also played their first ODI in 1972–73 against Pakistan. New Zealand are the inaugural World Test Championship champions (2021) and have won the ICC Champions Trophy (2000). They have reached the Cricket World Cup final twice and the T20 World Cup final once.

New Zealand Cricket has welcomed on board Tegel as the BLACKCAPS’ Test Series naming rights partner.

The three-year agreement will start with this summer’s Tegel Test Series against South Africa and Australia, respectively, and will continue until the end of the 2025-26 home season.

NZC GM Commercial Chris Smith said the new partnership builds on the back of NZC’s commercial strategy of long-term partnerships with premium brands.

He confirmed all NZC commercial assets and inventory for the season were now sold.

“We’re delighted to have the BLACKCAPS Test series backed by one of the country’s best known companies,” said Mr Smith.

“It’s fitting to have one of New Zealand’s most successful brands aligned with one of our most successful teams. Our new partnership with Tegel is something we’re all very proud of.”

Tegel Chief Commercial Officer Yvonne Van Nes said the company was thrilled to join forces with the BLACKCAPS.

“Acknowledging the BLACKCAPS’ commendable legacy of excellence and their ability to punch above their weight on the global stage, we’re drawn to this partnership through the shared values of dedication, teamwork, and resilience under pressure,” she said.

“Anticipating an exciting journey ahead, we look forward to contributing to the continued success and spirit the BLACKCAPS bring to our summer game.”

The first Test for the BLACKCAPS in the Tegel Test Series against South Africa gets underway at Bay Oval on 4 February.
